Following comments by David Cameron during a TV interview that he was committed to protecting the Union, Scottish Liberal Democrat Chief Whip Mike Rumbles said:

"Far from saving the Union, the role of the Tories at Holyrood over the last year has been to protect and support Alex Salmond's Government.

"The Tories regularly provide the SNP with a 'Get Out Of Jail' card.

"Under Annabel Goldie the Tories are not so much cosying up to the SNP as having a full-blown affair with them."
